Amanda Virginia Turner
Amanda Virginia Turner was the daughter of Wilson Turner and Emily Jane Romine. Amanda was born in Smith County, Tennessee on February 19, 1838 and died in Smith County, Tennessee on February 19, 1922. On October 28, 1860 she married William Elias Sykes who was born December 16, 1831, died Jananuary 12, 1908. William (known as Buck) fought with the Confederacy in the Civil War. When he returned he settled with his family in a small community then known as Bairdsville. There he owned a general store and secured a post office for the community where he served as it’s first postmaster. When the Sykes Post Office was established the name of the community was changed to Sykes, Tennessee. Amanda and Buck had eight children.

Wilson Turner was the son of Edward Turner and Sarah
Tabitha McPherson. Wilson was born March 28, 1804, died March 27, 1850.
On January 1, 1828, in Frederick County, Virginia he married Emily Jane Romine
who was born October 8, 1806, died November 2, 1869. Emily and Wilson moved
back to Tennessee and settled in Smith County, they are buried near Sykes,
Tennessee. They had ten children.
Edward Turner was the son of William Turner and Rhoda
Dent. Edward was born March 20, 1769, died October 27, 1851 in Tennessee.
He married Sarah Tabitha McPherson who was born 1780 in Virginia, died October
30, 1851 in Tennessee. Edward and Sarah brought their family to Brush
Creek, Tennessee. Edward was a deacon in the Brush Creek Baptist Church
in 1830. The church was founded May 29, 1802 - the first in the area.
Edward and Tabitha are burried on the farm they owned. They had ten
children.
William Turner was the son of Edward Turner and Eleanor Wilson. William was born December 14, 1737, in Charles County, Maryland, died in 1801. He married Rhoda Dent, daughter of Hatch and Anne Dent. They had eleven children.
Edward Turner was the son of Samuel Turner and Lydia Dent. Edward was born 17__, in Charles County, Maryland, died 1772. He married Eleanor Wilson, daughter of John Wilson. Eleanor died in 1781. They had thirteen children.
Samuel Turner was the son of Edward Turner. Samuel was
born _____, died 1746 in Charles County, Maryland. He married Lydia Dent,
daughter of Captain John Dent and Mary Hatch.
Edward Turner was the son of Arthur Turner and Mary.
Edward was born 165_ in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, he had three wives, names
and motherhood of which child unknown.
Arthur Turner was born
in England before 1622, died 1666. He and his wife Mary came to the
Province of Maryland in 1649. They had three children.
