Welcome
We hope you will find information on this web site
that will prove beneficial in completing your family genealogy. We are new to
genealogy but we have learned that the reason the history of our ancestors is
referred to as our "roots" is probably because they are so hard to
"dig-up" and identify.
We
believe that if you want to improve your proficiency in researching your family
genealogy, it is necessary that you become an historian, a psychologist, a
detective, a legal researcher and, when trying to interpret census records, a
mind reader. If you are able to become proficient in reading old documents we
hope that you will share your secret. We think it is important to always
attempt to independently verify your information before sharing it with others.
We recognize that it is almost impossible to personally verify all information
that you use but it is always possible to provide the source of your
information when sharing it with others.
The
Internet is becoming one of our best "tools" for research but we
always try to remember that not all information on the Internet is factual. We
have found that some researchers tend to "publish" as much
information on their web pages as possible without checking its accuracy or
identifying the source. When we locate information on the Internet that we
believe to be incorrect we always try to notify the "publisher" and
provide supporting documentation for our differences. We have found that
reviewing message boards and posting a query on these message boards and other
web sites tends to produce good research sources and can often lead to others
researching the same family.
Our
promise to you is that all information on this web site will be as factual as
we are capable of providing. If you find information that you believe to be
incorrect, please notify us and provide documentation so that we can correct
the information that we are providing to our visitors.
If
you would like for us to include information on your Smith County ancestors
and/or descendants, please send us the information and we will make every
effort to include your material as soon as possible. We hope that every member
of the Smith County Sykes families will consider this web site to be an
important source of information. If you have a personal web site, we would like
to include a link here.
This
is a recent project for us and we will try to continue adding new information
as soon as we find it. Thank you for visiting and as we say in Tennessee “Y’all
come back”.
